2nd Annual Czechoslovakian Vlciak Hike
It was a beautiful February day in Florida when we gathered for the 2nd Annual CSV Hike. This year’s adventure took us to Blue Spring State Park in Orange City, FL. Because of the cold snap the week before, the park’s famous manatees had moved into the warm spring waters, which meant we had to find an alternate way into the park—but it only added to the sense of adventure. We set out on a four‑mile hike along one of the park’s side trails, enjoying the sunshine, the cool br

Know When To WAIT
Photo Credit XPRanch Photography I never thought about training a herding dog before I got Pyra, my Czechoslovakian Vlciak. I started looking at what kind of sports I could do with Pyra outside of conformation shows and we started working on nose work, NASDA, and obedience. I then thought about the energy level of the CSV, Pyra in particular, and started looking at sports that used more energy and were more for a “thinking” dog. Fast CAT
“The CAT stands for Coursing Ability Test, and the “fast” stands for, well, fast!” What is FCAT? FCAT is a race, the dog against the clock, chasing a white plastic garbage bag tied to a string on a pulley system. It’s a 100-yard straightway, where some dogs can get to speeds of up to 50 miles per hour! “It may not be a real bunny, but most dogs have no problem pretending!” If you’d like to read more about FCAT and how to get started teaching lures and what to expect at an eve

OneWorld Canine Obstacle Run
On Saturday, May 18th Ana (Anastasia Direwolf), my 3-year-old Czechoslovakian Vlciak and I ran in the Canine Biathlon event in Anniston, Alabama . The Czechoslovakian Vlciak is an amazing breed of dog, perfectly suited for such an activity! The course was about 4.5 miles long with an elevation change of almost 1500 feet up…and down. There were obstacles throughout the entire course. There were switchbacks so steep you needed to use the mounted ropes to climb up and down, cars

Czechoslovakian Vlčák to Czechoslovkian Vlciak
On January 09, 2024, the American Kennel Club Board of Directors approved the breed’s name change from Czechoslovakian Vlčák to Czechoslovkian Vlciak. This change is due to the fact diacritical marks are not used in the USA and to be in consistence with country of origin. This will prevent any errors with translation. Listen to the correct pronunciation provided by KCHČSV (Sovak Republic) Chief Breeding Advisor, Janka Brussová Tarkaničová below.
